This One’s for You, Tom

Brewerkz.gif

Dateline: Rainy , Blustery Singapore

I’m testing out a new (to me, at least) blog editor: Zoundry. I gave up on Windows Live Writer when I couldn’t keep the dang thing lit. Whenever I tried to use it I got errors, or it hung the machine up, or it just plain misbehaved. I guess I broke the kick-starter or something.

Tom Chandler’s the one who got me to try Live Writer. Only one of the ways my “buddy” Tom is slowly driving me insane.

Okay, maybe you think, “That’s no drive, that’s barely a putt!” Whatever, I’m For Sure losing it. You see, Tom’s turned me into one of the Web’s worst denizens: A Blogaholic. I admit it, I’m addicted. And it’s all Tom’s fault.

I’ve got several sites going, and all my spare time, include that which I once wasted by sleeping, is gone. I’m even trying to borrow from other folks, so I can get a few more hours into each day. I tried begging for spare minutes on the street corners here in Singapore, but I learned two things: 1) The locals worried about the strange foreigner, and avoided me like the plague; and 2) there’s a fine for begging in Singapore. (More on that later.) Maybe I needed a better sign than “Will Blog for Food.”

One of the toughest things I’ve learned is patience. Sometimes, the posts I submit aren’t available immediately. And if I change something in the template, that For Sure won’t show up immediately. At least not here in Singapore. Seems the local services all cache websites from the USA, so you don’t get immediate feedback on changes. Very Annoying! Especially if you’re adding static pages to your blogsite, and then you check for them in a browser and get 404ed. I lost seven of my remaining ten hairs over that problem, until I gave up and went to work for a while. (Yes, I’m ostensibly over here consulting. The biggest hindrance to blogging ever invented, Work.) When I came back and popped open my site, Voila! Viola, even! There were my pages. Some elf had updated the site in my absence. That’s when I figured out the true cause of the “issue.”

As for the Blogomania: Yeah, yeah; I can quit anytime I want. I just don’t want. At least not right now. And no, I’m not going to go to any of those Blogaholics Unanimous meetings; I’ve got all I can do just to sit here and write. And write. AND Write!

Thanks, Tom. Luvyaman. Mean it…
