Home Again, Home Again
The long trek home is over, and I’ve had my required fix of Mexican food; all is well again…
Singapore to Tokyo was a pleasant seven hours, and we arrived simultaneously with about six other jumbo jets. There was complete bedlam in the arrival hall, and they’re still working out the transfer checkin procedures at Narita for international passengers. I was asked to wait in first one line, then another, but when the JAL agent found out I was Executive Platinum with American Airlines, he immediately escorted me to the oneworld Alliance lounge and I got checked in.
You see, you don’t get all your boarding passes at one checkin anymore; you can only get passes for the airline that checks you in. My first leg was with JAL, so I could only get one boarding pass. Didn’t matter that my bag could go all the way home without interruption (more on that later), I surely couldn’t.
The new lounge in Narita is a very pleasant place, and it’s too bad I only got about half the time there that I should have. I had a nice Bloody Mary and some snacks (see previous post), then I hurriedly reloaded my computer case and headed out for Gate 82: American Flight 60, one of the flights I’ve taken frequently the past five years. I used to travel on it nearly every trip from Asia, as well as Flight 61, the outbound sister flight. But new routes have made it easier for me to get where I need to go.
Still, it felt a bit like “old home week” and I even knew two of the flight attendants and one of the pilots. And, I had an upgrade to First Class as well. A lay-flat bed! I swear, that one feature can take days off the recovery time. That, and making the crossing in more than an hour less than usual; we had a strong tailwind! We showed over 780 mph (ground speed) regularly on the GPS tracking map.
I didn’t go out as soon as I got home, it being Sunday night late. But today I made up for lost time. My spouse and I went out to one of our favorite Tex-Mex places, Casa Garcia’s in Pflugerville. The sauce was extra-spicy; I wonder if they heard I was back in town? It was too hot for PJ, who contented herself with the Queso. After a nice plate of enchiladas with all the trimmings, I was in a fine mood. I believe most of the world’s problems could be solved in an afternoon, if we could just get the right folks together and fill them up with this stuff first.
There’s a still a busy week ahead, so I’ll cut this off here. While I’m sleeping, why don’t you–
Enjoy the (Jalapeño) Heat!
