Breakfast Buffet in Bengaluru

Bengaluru

I made it fine into Bengaluru, although it was 2 AM before I got to the hotel and got settled. A few hours of refreshing sleep and I was ready to go!

Breakfast buffet is included in my room fee, and since it was dinnertime (according to my tummy) I was ready to try out a lot of stuff. This being a Western-style hotel, I expected to see the usual fare: Eggs, bacon, pancakes, juice, toast, sweet rolls. I wasn’t disappointed in that.

The nice part, however, was the Indian food half of the buffet.

Aloo Bhat, Vada, Pongal, Sambar, chapattis, seven types of chutney (tomato, mint, coconut, pineapple and more), minced pickles; the works! Even the salad was local style.

I fell on that buffet line like a pit bull on a neckbone starving Yuppie refugee. I found the Paneer and Spinach Logs to be an enjoyable surprise. And everything has such fresh and intense flavors! Not simply curry: cumin, cinnamon, asafoetida, fenugreek, and of course chiles, but not always in-your-face like Palin on a police commissioner.

Skip the bacon, go straight to the South Indian side of the buffet and gorge! That’s my strategy for the whole week…

(I can’t believe I actually said “skip the bacon.”)

Enjoy the (South Indian) Heat!
