Food BOM for September: The Amateur Gourmet

Posted by: Chile Doctor on Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Amateur GourmetYes, it’s that time again! Time for the Food BOM to explode in a browser near you!

(in fact, it’s past time, officially, as it’s October here in India; but thanks to Einstein’s Relativity I can just make it under the wire in the USA!)

Okay, I know; thousands of you are wondering, why the name change? Wasn’t F-BOM good enough before? Well, it was. (Of course it was; I chose it, for Chrissake.) However, in the interests of keeping things clean, not to mention wedded bliss, I’m tweaking the title a bit.

Okay, a lot. But if you knew my wife…

However, I digress. Back to the Food BOM! The Food BOM for September, 2008 is The Amateur Gourmet, a site about cooking (sometimes), food (occasionally), and zaniness (always). Quirky, fast-paced, and clearly superior to most other food blogs (excluding your favorite Chile Underground, of course), The Amateur Gourmet is always worth a visit.

Don’t expect wisdom from blogger Adam Roberts, as he’s way beyond that sort of mundane stuff. You will find useful tips about juggling knives, cooking demonstrations, and occasionally traveling. Of course he has recipes and restaurant reviews, but he also reviews movies, gives how-to advice and more.

How did The Amateur Gourmet get his start? Law school, of course, just like most of us. (What, you didn’t go to law school? You missed out, man.) Adam was miserable in law school, so he took up cooking out of self-defense. Or something. Anyways, things got so bad he moved from Georgia to New York and studied to be a playwright. Apparently that didn’t work out, as he’s now writing cookbooks. Or at least writing. A good thing too, we got plenty of lawyers.

Stop by the Amateur Gourmet often, especially when you need a chuckle or want to drool at beautiful pictures of food. Shoot, you might even buy a copy of his book! After all, how many food blogs do you know that have their own book? (You can always just look at the pictures, or get your mom to read it to you if you have to. Leave the crayons in the box, though.)

As for actually using Einstein’s Relativity to beat time; well, if you believe that, I’ve got some Ginsu knives available for cheap, we need to talk…

Enjoy the (Gourmet) Heat!
