Tis the Season: Yuletide Beans

Beans in a Pot

Beans are one of Nature’s great foods. They deliver wonderful nutrition, dry and store nicely, and are versatile ingredients in so many dishes.

Here in Texas, we like our pintos, as well as black beans, red beans, butter beans, navy beans and more. They’re comfort food, especially once the weather turns a mite nippy out.

While we’re at it, who says we can’t enjoy beans with our Yule feasts? Here are three editions we especially like here at the White House:

None of these recipes is particularly challenging. Just don’t let the beans go dry while cooking! If you try one of these recipes, leave a comment with a rating and I’ll send along a copy of one of our Compleat Cooking Guides!

You can use chicken broth to replace water for more flavorful beans; try a low-sodium variety, though, or the beans may taste too salty in some cases…

Enjoy the (Musical) Heat!
