I Got the Job! Now, to Really Cook…

ChemistryA.png

Some of you may have been wondering where I got off to. The Chile Underground has been fairly quiet since the start of the year. Well, the secret can now be told! I was doing something I hadn’t done in many years: I was seeking gainful employment.

Yes, yours truly was out there looking to be a shill for the shilling just another small employee in a giant enterprise professor of chemistry. And after a long, hard fight, I have secured such a position. I’ll be professor of Organic Chemistry at Texas Lutheran University, beginning in the Fall 2010 semester. (In the meantime I’m working at TLU anyway, teaching part-time.) It was a very close thing, and at one point I was sure I wasn’t the candidate of choice. PJ wouldn’t let me talk like that, though, and (although it pains me to admit it) she was right. Again.

I think my love of cooking goes all the way back to making neat chemical stuff in the lab. Or maybe it’s the other way around; I don’t know. Whatever it is, I’ll get to do some more cooking in the coming months, you betcha…

Enjoy the (New Lab Cooking) Heat!
