Monday Blues Report: Hurricane Watching From Near the Grill

Hurricane Drink

The weather reports this morning look fairly grim for the Texas-Mexico coast. Alex could be a major hurricane at landfall, which now appears most likely in northern Mexico near Brownsville sometime early Thursday. Given the area coverage of the rain from this cyclone, we should get Very Wet in the coming few days. In the meantime it’s Time to Grill!

To get things properly started today I made up a batch of hurricanes and fired up the grill. Today’s menu includes hamburgers. Not just any hamburgers, of course! No, these are special, built with loving care to include onion soup mix and minced chiles in the patties and slices of cheese on top. I shaped them to fit on a hoagie roll too, since my favorite grocer had a special on some nice-looking, whole wheat hoagies. I added some camp beans as a side, and made sure the supply of sliced veggies was ample: Home-growed tomatoes, red onion, dill pickles, lettuce, jalapeƱos. I doctored mine with spicy mayo on one side (it was a tough choice, with chipotle mayo also available) and spicy brown mustard on the other. No ketchup! That stuff’s for kids and hot dogs…

Enjoy the (Blue Monday Grilling) Heat!
