Shrimping Season in the Gulf Starts Soon! Get Ready…

Shrimp

According to this press release, the commercial shrimp season for both Texas state and federal waters (out to 200 miles) begins 30 minutes after sunset on Friday, July 15th. Shortly after that, fresh crustaceans will be making their way onshore for your delectation. Or as Bubba in Forrest Gump said:

Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.

About sums it up. Of course, to make all those delish dishes, you have to have shrimp. Hence the importance of a good shrimping season. Let’s all wish them well this year, and no hurricanes messing with them. (We want those here on land, for the rain.)

Just one last thing: Be sure to use plenty of zesty peppers in those dishes…

Enjoy the (Plentiful Shrimp Harvest) Heat!
