Would You Like Some Al Yankovic With That Veal Cordon Bleu? And Other Food-Music News

This entry is part of a series, Follies 2011»

Pipes

Wine with food. Okay, we’ve all pretty much gotten used to the idea of pairing food with adult-friendly grape juice. Cheese?  Yes, we’re learning to deal with food-cheese pairings, especially at swank parties. Beer and food? Of course that’s a great idea. (Taking it further, to specific beers with targeted eats, that’s not yet prime time.) Bottled water pairings? Don’t look now, they’re heading your way. (Maybe.)

But music? I never considered that.

Oh, it’s nice to listen to some good classical or romantic tunes, especially if you have naughty designs in mind plans for the evening. Other than Boléro, though, I’ve never put on a specific song for a meal. And that was more as a joke than anything designed to aid digestion or set a mood. (It worked, though.)

Turntable Kitchen is out to re-educate you, though. They believe you should always have appropriate music on while you eat. I’m not sure what they recommend for things like froglegs-to-go, or hotdogs and peanuts at the ballpark. You should take a peek, though, just in case you find something that strikes your fancy for your next dinner.

In other food-and-music news, bagpipes have been banned from stadia at the Rugby World Cup. And the ban may be lifted. Depending on which side of this issue you’re on, surely your stomach just twisted itself up in knots. The Scots, of course, aren’t pleased with the ban. Your mileage (and appetite) may vary…

Enjoy the (Tunes and Tucker) Heat!
