Halloween’s Just Around the Corner; Let’s Party! Start With Witches’ Brew…

Scary Party

I have a modest proposal for Halloween this year. After the candy’s all distributed in the annual Dentists’ Benefit, the adults should have a party. No kids invited! The only trick is:

What to eat?

Well, before dining the gods have ordained a wee spot of something to drink. (We’ll get back to the food part later.) So let’s start there…

Mystical Witches’ Brew

  • Gummy Worms (I prefer the extra-sour kind) or other small, eerie candy
  • 3 cups chilled pineapple juice (the unsweetened kind)
  • 1 can of frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
  • 1 liter of chilled ginger ale

The day before the party, put some gummy worms into ice cube trays, top off with water and freeze. The evening of, combine the pineapple juice and limeade in a large punch bowl and stir to combine well.  Gently blend in the ginger ale and serve with the gummy worms ice cubes.

Since this is an adults-only party, you can consider pumping this up with something alcoholic. A good quality vodka would work with this stuff; also a nice bourbon would do.  For this much punch you’ll need about half a bottle or so. My bartender’s guide indicates about a third of a bottle per quart of punch, so I’m shooting a bit light here; that guidance is for more “standard” drinks than a light punch, though. Don’t want the party to end early, right?

As the cursed day draws near I’ll have more ideas for food and drink. And for your party. And don’t forget, el Dia de los Muertos starts on Halloween and continues into November; more excuses to party…
