New Pepper Cheeses; Why Didn’t I Think of That?

Pepper Cheese

A busy week ahead, and I hurried to the grocer’s for supplies. Daughterpersonage wanted to make beer cheese soup, and that requires several tasty cheese types to make the perfect meal. I especially had orders for Cabot Cheddar. After fumbling around like a drunk wombat because the store managers can’t leave the floor layout alone leisurely strolling the aisles I found the chilled case of cheeses I’d need.

I was stunned to see so many varieties of Cabot cheese in the display! Especially chile-containing ones.

For instance, they now offer a Chipotle Cheddar. And a Hot Habanero. In the reduced-fat cheeses they feature Jalapeño, Pepper Jack and Habanero varieties. They also have another Pepper Jack cheese, and a spreadable Habanero. (I feel a cracker snack attack coming on.)

Other flavors I saw that attracted me included Garlic & Herb, Tomato Basil (one of my all-time favorite flavor combos), Smoky Bacon, and Horseradish.

What to do, what to do? I could now commiserate with the poor donkey who starved to death between the bales of hay.

Finally a gruff, older lady said, “You gonna stare that stuff to death?” as she elbowed me aside to grab some of the good bits. I shook my head as the spell broke in shards on the concrete floor. I have absolutely no idea how long I’d been standing there; religious experiences are like that.

I grabbed some Extra Sharp Cabot (there wasn’t any Seriously Sharp left) and fled before I could get sucked back into a trance.

My new diet doesn’t allow much cheese, but you can be sure I’ll be sampling the reduced-fat varieties Real Soon Now. Too bad they beat me to the idea for all these cheese flavors…

Enjoy the ( Seriously Tasty Pepper Cheeses) Heat!

  • Seriously, folks, this epidemic of pepper cheeses is getting out of hand. I just found a pack of string cheese snacks on the rack, and there’s jalapeño peppers in there! Kraft makes’em, so hurry down to the HEB store and get yourself some before they’re sold out…
