Agent Orangiental, a Great New Salad Dressing

Special Salad

My niece in Dallas has been experimenting with my charred pineapple habanero jelly. She’s come up with an interesting combination as a salad dressing. Here are the particulars…

Agent Orangiental Salad Dressing

  • 1 teaspoon light soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon dark Karo syrup
  • 1 tablespoon charred pineapple habanero jelly

Mix all these ingredients well. Season with Chinese Five Spice, add some orange peel and sesame seed, and pour on your salad. Yummy stuff! The salad that this mixture was first tried on involved mixed greens, chicken and crunchy dried Ramen noodles.

Use these quantities as guides only; your mileage (and tastes) may vary, naturally. I tried this dressing at these values, since I had no quantities from the inventor. You can also use a bit of high-quality olive oil if you want, making this into a vinaigrette. I also put a bit of black vinegar in one test sample, and that also worked well with the citrus, soy, pineapple and chile heat. Although I haven’t tested it, I bet honey in place of the Karo syrup would be fine.

In all, I think she’s come up with a winning collaboration of flavors and textures! Next time I’ll try some Mandarin orange slices on the greens, and maybe some bacon bits. Ambrosia…

The (Special Salad Sauce) Heat is ON!
