The cars here in Singapore come in all styles, including some expensive ones you don’t see just anywhere: Maserati, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Jaguar and so on. The ones I find the most amazing are the small ones. There’s this one little car that’s quite popular. A pair of them would make a great kid’s gift; roller skates. [...] This morning the dawn sky was clear, a foreboding of evil heat to come. Yesterday’s rain, and its relative cool, were long gone. But I’m getting tougher after being here in Singapore for so long. I can even go outside for a walk these days and not immediately melt down into my shoes. Any rumors of me paying fines for public nudity (or anything else, for that matter) in Singapore are base canards at best. Besides, I’m pretty sure you don’t have access to the police reports, so [...] Today was Feast Day. No, not any special Saint of the Catholic persuasion. Instead, I decided to try out the Sunday buffet at Xin Cuisine, the hotel’s main eatery. There were two weddings on Saturday night, so the place was a zoo. And more scheduled for Sunday. Seems everybody in Singapore is getting married this weekend. [...] The business exec I’m visiting with this week wanted to go out for dinner on Friday. Of course, I’m always up for dinner when an exec is buying! He said he knew of a place, over near my hotel, that was “local color” and well-known in Singapore. That sounded fine to me. It was hotter than normal, if that’s possible. But that’s okay, [...] Singapore is a well-regulated society, in one of the most beautiful areas on the planet. My cab driver wanted to talk politics today, and when he found out I’m from Texas he wanted to know about the Bush legacy. (Did I mention that the Singapore cab drivers seem to know a lot about the world? [...] |
