Nashville Paleta Queens Kick Bobby Flay in the Popsicle
As a kid growing up in Texas, we lived on home-make Popsicles. We had no air conditioning, but we did have a freezer and Kool-Aid. (Or at least some knockoff of that sweet beverage.)
Four kids and 100 degree days; we ate those frozen treats like Kirstie Allie stoking up for a stint as a one-woman [...] Read more »
I’m Not Here Right Now; But If I Were, I’d be Eating…
I just went back to school.
Not to get a degree; I got more of those than I need. And my teaching is over (at least for now).
This time, it was to launch daughterperson on her college career.
It only seems like yesterday she was eating her birthday cake. Her first birthday, I mean. And now she’s [...] Read more »
More Friday Follies X: Beer Makes You Attractive, and Other Soggy Tales
It’s now a demonstrated, provable fact: Beer makes you more attractive! And what more reputable outlet than the Daily Mail of London to break this scientific news?
Okay, we all knew (as in all of us beerdrinkers knew) that beer you attractive. But scientific proof had been elusive, until now. The exciting part is, it only [...] Read more »
The Gourmet Chile Pepper and Salsa Festival: Heat, Eats and Margarit-Ahs
After the trek and detours mentioned in my previous post, we finally arrived at the Festival. I knew this wouldn’t be a big event (like maybe ZestFest ‘08), so I wasn’t worred about getting there early and leaving late; we reversed that, actually. With the beauteous & clever Paula Jo out on point (so I [...] Read more »
Traveling to The Gourmet Chili Pepper and Salsa Festival in Fredericksburg, Texas
I attended the Gourmet Chili Pepper and Salsa Festival on Saturday, at Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg, Texas. This is a small, mostly-vendor gathering, and it was hot! I mean the weather; it was 106 degrees F at two in the afternoon, with intense sun and no clouds.
Oh, the food, you ask? Lots of samples; more [...] Read more »
More Malaysia: Nonya Chicken Curry and Three Pepper Pork
As I’ve mentioned previously, Penang (Pulau Pinang) is one of my favorite places in Malaysia. It’s a bustling little island, with lots of high-tech income and scenic charm. In the next few years there will be modernized trains and a much-enlarged airport. The world-class hotels and resorts (mostly on the north shore) attract lots of [...] Read more »
Malaysian Food: On the Go…
Modern Malaysia is a country on-the-go. A nation of islands and peninsulas, Malays eat a lot of seafood. They are also officially Muslim, and that reflects in the types of food available. (It als means you have natural alarm clocks pretty much everywhere, when the muezzins call the faithful to first prayers.)
Folks on the go [...] Read more »
Malaysian Cuisine I: Two Interesting Sauces
Modern Malaysia is a land of many contrasts. There are places of crushing poverty, and areas of rampant wealth and excess. Often these are separated by as little as a street or a fence. There are signs of the British occupation and rule, and many places where it appears the British never showed up. Christan [...] Read more »
